Save the Earth, Reduce carbon

Mother Earth is calm and Round
Keeping us all within, safe and Sound
With sky so clear in deep blue allure
Who can resist such a beauty lure?

But soon it will lose its might
Filled with starless, smoky night
Mother Earth is coughing out loud
Like the factory spouting black cloud

Not until we do our part
Springing from our grateful heart
Towards Mother Earth we show our love
Returning all we had unearthed
Starting all, reduce carbon footprint!
Here are some methods. We mightily sprint

Save the water! Turn off the tap
Slowly, steadily, returning earth sap
Flick of a finger, switch off the lights
towards the goal, gaining new heights

Dump the car, we walk, make it brisk
Breathe the air, feel the breeze
Take the bus with lively horn
Slowly see the new light born
Reduce wastage, let' s be lean
Indirectly the air we clean
Reducing plastic, resources sprees
Save the environment, Save the trees

Change your lifestyle! Don’t be stubborn!
Help to Reduce Emission of Carbon
One' s efforts small, but not nil
Combining all, we beat the longest Nile
Our efforts - an endless mile
But she will too shine upon us with endless smiles!

NEEDS or WANTS?

I would like to propose a simple, yet effective methodology which will help in reducing the carbon footprint in domestic household. Most of us would have already used this method to help manage our finance, by determining our needs and wants.

We need a refrigerator to store food and electric kettle to boil water. These are examples that we had to have these electrical appliances for our daily necessity. We want to have an air-con to cool ourselves. We want to have a hi-fi system to enjoy great music. These can be classified as wants to feed our desire. Therefore when we prioritized our needs and wants, we can then focus on which electrical appliances we can forsake or to substitute with.

Since electrical appliances categorize under the “needs section” are something we are going to have for long term, we have to find energy efficient appliances to reduce usage of electricity. For example, look at the Energy Label of the refrigerator before making your purchase. Procure the one with the most ticks which represent highest energy efficiency thus saving electricity.

All in all, we have to be responsible in making Earth a habitable place while maintaining our own lifestyle.

MAKE SINGAPORE A GREEN City!

This globally recognized phenomenon called climate change has touched many and will continue to affect everyone, especially small and urban Singapore.

As a basic and simple example, I think Singaporeans will feel the most obvious effect of climate change in the rising temperature and suffocating heat. The infrastructural face of Singapore will change by having more shaded areas and even more buildings with powerful air-conditioning networks. This results in higher levels of carbon dioxide emission, trapping Singaporeans in a vicious cycle, thoughtlessly worsening the environmental condition.

In order to circumvent the flooding problem caused by higher sea levels during unpredictable monsoon seasons, Singapore’s civil engineers will be the highest paid professionals in Singapore, creating complex drainage designs given Singapore’s land scarcity issues.

The sentiments of civic duty will then propel Singaporeans to try their best to minimize their harmful effects on the environment. Together with the National Environment Agency, the government, corporate and social organizations, schools and other bodies will work on successful campaigns to make environmental awareness a key factor in personal education.

Though Singapore will continue to suffer from the adverse effects of climate change, a coping method will be Singaporeans’ huge capacity to learn and adapt, making Singapore a truly GREEN city.

Pledging support for the BTPS Anti-Littering programme 2009 - pupils write down the action they will take to play their part to keep BTPS clean.

It's through games and fun, we learnt how our actions affect the Environment.

We also learnt about ways and items we can recycle.

Assembling this puzzle with our team mates, we pledge to make a difference to our Earth.
