Because there are limited resources in Singapore, we must conserve water and not pollute it.
· Importance of water for humans
Water is very important to us humans as we need water to survive. Humans can only live without water for 3 days. Our organs also need lots of water to work. For example, our brain is made out of 95% of water. Not only that, the world is made out of 70% water and only 1.6% of the water in the world is drinkable.
· Example of water pollution
1.
Oil spill
2.
Littering into the sea
3.
Oxygen depletion
4. Industrial waste pollution
· How could water pollution affect us?
Oil spill:
If there is an oil spill, because the oil floats on the water, oxygen from the sky cannot be dissolved into the water and the marine animals living underwater cannot get oxygen and die. Birds, like seagulls, also can get trapped by the oil while hunting for fish and die.
Littering in the sea is as bad as littering in on the ground. If you litter a plastic bag into the sea, marine creatures can think the plastic bag is a place to live and when they go inside, it is hard for them to come out and die.
There are many worst things that can happen. Let’s do our part to not pollute water!
These are the ways to conserve water
·
Take
a shower instead of a bath and you will use half as much water.
·
Only
run your washing machine and dishwasher when you have a full load.
·
Water
plants and the lawn in the evening so that the water has a chance to soak in
overnight. If you water in the day time, most of the water will evaporate
before it has done any good. Water you've used to boil vegetables can be used
to water plants
·
Don't
leave the tap running while you clean your teeth or shave. If you leave the tap
running you could be wasting up to 10 litres per minute.
·
Don't
use a hose pipe to wash the car. Use a bucket and sponge.
